A young mother was left quite disappointed when she had to breastfeed her baby on a dirty train floor.
Sophie Molineux, a 22-year-old from the UK, was traveling from Shropshire to Ludlow with her 1-year-old when he hungrily needed a snack. Unfortunately, the train was bustling with passengers, leaving Sophie and her partner, Rob Moore, unable to find a seat.
With every seat occupied, Sophie was forced to sit on the floor to breastfeed, despite being amidst at least fifty other passengers. Her surprise and disappointment grew, especially when no one seemed to notice her plight enough to offer a seat.
“I was genuinely shocked. Around fifty people were sitting in the carriage, and not a single one moved to help. We stood there, visible to all, yet overlooked completely,” Sophie recounted.
Sophie explained, “Chester is of an age where when he wants to breastfeed, he just tugs at my top. It becomes quite clear it’s feeding time. Ideally, I wouldn’t sit on a grimy train floor, but I had no choice.”
As she sat there, Sophie noticed passengers walking past them, glancing her way, acknowledging her situation but showing no willingness to offer her a seat. “Many looked with acknowledgment, yet none acted. It seemed like they didn’t want to call attention to themselves to avoid offering their seat,” she added.
Expressing her shock, Sophie mentioned this was her first time encountering such unkindness. She continued, “I only hope in the future, people could show a little more kindness – offering a seat to a mother and child should come naturally.”
