The President outlined his anger, particularly over Newsom’s refusal to sign a crucial water restoration declaration. This measure would have allowed the state to utilize millions of gallons of water from snow and rain melting in Northern regions, vital resources for areas presently engulfed in flames.

Trump criticized Newsom, stating the Governor chose to prioritize the preservation of an insignificant fish species, the delta smelt, over the welfare of California’s residents. He argued this decision was based on the notion that the smelt could survive in lower water conditions, a strategy he deemed ineffective.
