Dick Van Dyke has been blessed all over his life however he also has had to face grief during his long life.

The Hollywood legend got candid about his age in a recent conversation which took a sad turn as he noted that he has outlived most of his friends.

The 99-year-old actor and his wife Arlene Van Dyke participated in a Q&A session at the Dick & Arlene Van Dyke Present Vandy Camp event in Malibu.

During the conversation, the Hollywood icon, who will turn 100 in December, recalled he and his longtime pal were planning to remake their movie The Odd Couple.

But the plan fell apart as Ed passed away at the age of 91 in 2021.

“That would’ve been such fun, and we lost it. I’ve lost a lot of friends,” Dick confessed, via People.

“He’s outlived everybody,” Arlene chimed in. “That’s the curse of living to almost 100.”

Dick’s wife also shared that he has always been “positive” even after losing so many friends and costars over time.

Explaining the secret of his optimistic mindset, Dick admitted “Well, life’s been good to me,”.

“I can’t complain,” he added.

Dick Van Dyke could not attend the comedy event, Vandy Camp, which he was supposed to host due to some illness.

The 99-year-old actor had to cancel last minute, as his wife, Arlene Silver announced at the Arlene & Dick Van Dyke Theater at Malibu High School on Saturday, June 28.

The Mary Poppins star had to opt out because of illness, as Arlene informed during her speech, as per People Magazine.

She began by saying, she was “not the Van Dyke you’re expecting. I have to inform you that Dick is not up to coming to celebrate with us today. I’m sorry.”

The actress continued, “When you’re 99 and a half years old, you have good days and bad days … and unfortunately, today is not a good day for him, and he’s sick that he can’t be here.”

However, Silver assured fans that she was “pretty confident” Van Dyke would be at the next Vandy Camp event “in person.”

Further in her speech, the makeup artist went on to talk about her husband’s dedication to the comedy event.

“It is a celebration of your childhood, all of our childhoods, the music that’s in the fabric of all of us, [and] Dick Van Dyke is a big part of that,” she said, continuing to note that Van Dyke’s fans “are the greatest human beings I’ve ever known.”

“These Vandy Camp [events] are a wonderful opportunity to have you all in the same room and meet each other,” she added.
