In a troubling sequence of events, a Boeing 737 carrying 188 passengers found itself veering off the runway after an attempted landing. This incident marks the third such occurrence involving commercial flights within a span of 24 hours.
The aircraft, under the operation of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight KL 1204, performed an emergency landing at the Oslo Torp Sanderfjord Airport after leaving Oslo Airport.
Upon a successful touchdown, the plane unfortunately lost control and skidded onto the grassy patch beside the taxiway.
According to Planespotters, the Boeing aircraft involved is over 24 years old, highlighting the potential influence of age on aircraft performance.
Reports indicated the plane carried 188 individuals onboard — six crew members in addition to the 176 passengers.
This incident involved one of KLM’s Boeing 737-800 models, a frequently utilized narrow-body aircraft in commercial flights. Following an emergency diversion from Oslo Airport, the sequence led to the plane skidding off the runway — a matter which is currently under thorough investigation.
Interestingly, the news follows closely on the heels of another air incident involving a South Korean Airline plane, which crashed in Muan due to a suspected bird strike causing a malfunction in the landing gear.
Both these incidents highlight the risks and unpredictabilities associated with air travel, reminding us of the challenges even experienced airlines face in the ever-busy air corridors.
