China’s ‘Mystery Illness Worse than COVID-19’ Has Already Hit UK with Alarming Spike

A mysterious illness has been sweeping across China, causing hospitals to become overcrowded. Recent studies suggest that this wave of illness is now impacting the United Kingdom as well.

Currently, China is operating on high alert, due to reports of a new virus with symptoms similar to COVID-19. These flu-like symptoms have begun to spread across the country.

Numerous social media posts from mainland China describe a concerning situation where young children are crowding hospitals. Many have extremely high fevers, persistent coughs, and severe sore throats.

Reports indicate that these cases have reached a peak in recent days. Experts suspect that human metapneumovirus (hMPV), known for causing cold-like symptoms, may be the underlying culprit of this outbreak.

In the UK, a government study has been closely monitoring illnesses similar to COVID-19. This study has revealed that hMPV, which is believed to be responsible for the outbreak in China, is also prevalent in the UK. The positivity rate for the virus has slightly increased to 4.5%, with children under five years old being the most affected.

The study notes that the situation has been present since December 23, 2024. Chinese authorities have addressed the issue, reassuring the public that conditions are under control and there is no cause for alarm or panic.

A safety advisory has been issued, recommending that individuals traveling within the country wear masks. However, some reports have suggested that the Chinese government may be downplaying the seriousness of the situation.
