Experts are sharing insights into the devastating plane crash that resulted in over 179 tragic deaths in South Korea. The harrowing incident occurred when the plane collided with a massive concrete wall at the runway’s edge, a mistake many describe as almost criminal. This error led to the aircraft bursting into flames, claiming numerous lives.
The Jeju Airline aircraft skidded off the runway in Muan, approximately 180 miles from Seoul. Shortly after impacting the concrete barrier, the plane erupted in flames on Sunday because the landing gear did not deploy properly. Among the passengers, only two survived. This incident is now recognized as one of South Korea’s most catastrophic aviation disasters.
Dramatic footage reveals the plane’s approach, during which it encountered a bird strike, necessitating a circle around the runway and a landing attempt with the flaps positioned upwards. This scenario suggests the plane encountered a hydraulic failure, hindering the deployment of the landing gear.
A prominent air safety expert remarked that if the plane had collided with a fence instead, resulting in a slide over a road or cessation in a nearby field, the outcome could have been vastly different. The expert insisted, “I believe everyone could be alive today. Even with some damage to the pilots from a fence, survival was likely.”
Other airline pilots have also contributed their opinions on this event, suggesting the aircraft might have experienced engine power loss and hydraulic issues after the bird strike.
