A Florida jury has awarded $310 million to the family of Tyre Sampson, a teenager who tragically lost his life in a fall from a ride at the Orlando Theme Park in 2022.
This monumental verdict places accountability on the ride’s manufacturer, Funtime Handels GMBH, citing grave safety oversights and negligence that led to the unfortunate incident.
More details emerged about how Tyre was at ICON Park, enjoying a day out with his teammates when they decided to try out some of the attractions.
Despite Tyre weighing more than 43 kilograms over the acceptable limit, he was still permitted to ride. Tragically, he fell 30 meters from the FreeFall drop ride.
The ride lacked essential safety features, such as seat belts, which resulted in him slipping out of his harness, as BBC News recently reported.
The Sampson family has openly shared their sorrow, highlighting the preventable nature of the loss with the right safety precautions in place.
“Though the case is closed, the pain in our hearts remains forever,” expressed his grieving parents, encapsulating the lasting impact of their son’s untimely death.
