An extraordinary love story that captured the hearts of many has come to a close after two beautiful years together. An 83-year-old British grandmother, Iris Jones, and her Egyptian partner, Mohamed Ibriham, who was 46 years her junior, have decided to part ways.
When Iris and Mohamed’s relationship first became public, it was a sensation due to their remarkable age difference. The couple met online in 2019 and after a whirlwind romance, they celebrated their love in marriage. Mohamed made the bold move to the UK to be with Iris, thanks to a three-year visa he obtained in 2021.
Sadly, their journey together reached its end not long after they started living under one roof. Iris recently spoke with Closer magazine, sharing the insights into their relationship and why they chose to separate.
“I had a deep affection for Mohammed,” Iris reflected. “Yet, things became less about love and more about constant disagreements. We once had a vibrant love life, but arguments started overshadowing everything. I am not a young girl anymore, I’m 83,” she explained candidly.
Despite the heartbreak, Iris found solace in unexpected companionship. “Now, I find comfort with my cat,” she shares with a smile. “He never complains and he’s truly beautiful. Just a few days after Mohamed left, I brought my feline friend home, and he’s been the perfect company ever since.”
For Iris, her new furry friend offers a calming presence. “He doesn’t make a mess, he’s content with just being here, and I must say, I’m not missing Mohamed one bit. The amusing part about his departure was that he took my favorite tempura battered prawns, which I was looking forward to having for dinner,” she chuckled.
Life is full of unexpected turns, and while Iris’s romantic chapter with Mohamed may have ended, she embraces her days with newfound grace and positivity. The story of her journey reminds us all of the varying forms of love and companionship that life can offer.
