A mother with a bustling household of 19 children has recently shared some exciting news – she’s expecting her 20th child. Martha, a lively 39-year-old from Medellin, Colombia, shows no sign of putting the brakes on her growing family.
With a diverse family background involving multiple fathers, Martha considers her role as a mother akin to running a business. As long as she can have children, she plans to continue growing her family.

Seeing motherhood through a unique lens, Martha said she doesn’t focus much on the identities of her children’s fathers. Instead, she welcomes the government support that comes with each child’s birth. The financial assistance allows her to keep adding beloved names to her family roster.

“I see being a mom like a business, practically,” Martha explained with conviction. “The truth is, as the government helps me for each child, I receive a little money for each one.”

Based on estimations, Martha earns about $500 monthly from the government to support her 19 children. Though managing so many lives can be a challenge, she wouldn’t trade her situation for anything else. This approach is particularly helpful as her children grow and start their own independent lives.

Martha surprisingly reveals she doesn’t face much difficulty in forming new romantic connections, allowing her to maintain her growing brood. Part of her secret may lie in her choice to not engage the fathers in their children’s lives fully, nor does she seek to untangle the paternal lines of her kids.
This intriguing story certainly gives us food for thought. It’s an unconventional approach to family, but one that works for Martha and her ever-expanding clan. What are your views on such a modern family structure? Feel free to share your thoughts with others!
