The poignant final images of a very young South Korean boy gazing out of an airplane window have captured the hearts of many as they circulate online.
This little boy was about to face his tragic fate, being involved in a catastrophic plane crash at Muan International Airport that resulted in the loss of 179 lives.
At just three years old, this child was the youngest passenger to die in the accident. The family was reportedly coming home from a joyful holiday, accompanied by his caring parents.
The flight, operated by Jeju Airline, tragically veered off the runway at Muan Airport, crashing into a towering concrete wall, which led to it engulfing in flames.
The devastating incident occurred on a Sunday when the landing gear malfunctioned. Aboard the Boeing aircraft were 181 passengers, and regrettably, nearly all perished. Two crew members—a man and woman—were the sole survivors pulled from the wreckage.
Further reports reveal that five of those who died were under ten years old. Many on board were tourists from South Korea who were heading back home after enjoying a break.
Ongoing investigations aim to uncover how a bird strike led to the malfunctioning of the landing gear, and why the pilot made the decision to approach the runway at full throttle in its center, causing the aircraft to fall short and crash into the airport’s outer barrier.
