Prince Harry Moans his Childhood Bedroom Inside Castle was ‘Less Luxurious’ than Brother William’s

Prince Harry’s recent release of his memoir titled Spare has caught the public’s attention with some intriguing revelations. The book shares insights into his life and creates a spotlight on his long-standing rivalry with his brother, Prince William. This rivalry isn’t a new development but something that has lingered for years, finally coming to light now.

The Duke of Sussex delves into their years of sibling squabbles, citing numerous incidents that extend back to their childhood. According to Harry, physical skirmishes and various disagreements are not new but have been part of their dynamic from the beginning.

One memorable passage from his memoir highlights the disparity between the brothers’ sleeping quarters at Balmoral Castle. Harry notes how his room was rather modest, especially when compared to William’s, which seemed to be much more extravagant.

The Duke explained that among the 50 available bedrooms, William, being the older brother, received the privilege of choosing first. This meant he had access to half of the house which was more luxurious. William’s room featured ample space, showcasing items like a sizeable double bed and a well-sized basin.

Additionally, it boasted a closet with mirrored doors and a mesmerizing window view overlooking the courtyard complete with a fountain. Harry’s description of his own space, by contrast, painted a far less luxurious picture.

“My half was so much smaller and less luxurious. I never once questioned why. I suppose I simply accepted that the reason rested in our identities—he was William, and I was Harry,” the Prince elaborated in his own words.

Harry further discussed the implications of birth order within the royal family. Being two years younger, he was frequently reminded that William was the heir, destined for the throne, whereas Harry was often referred to as “the Spare.”
