Prince Harry has stirred up quite a conversation with the release of his memoir, Spare. Within its pages, he unveils some striking truths.
The Duke of Sussex opens up about the long-standing rivalry with his brother William, revealing that their sibling tensions have roots much deeper than the public ever realized.
In his book, Harry illustrates how their brotherly tussles and disputes stretch back to their early years. He recalls numerous encounters that reflect their complex relationship, with issues often dating back to their formative years.
One notable recollection involves his childhood bedroom at Balmoral Castle, which Harry describes as modest compared to William’s.
Harry divulges how, amongst the castle’s 50 bedrooms, it was William who had the privilege of choosing first, naturally gravitating towards the more luxurious rooms due to his age and status as the elder sibling.
This meant he enjoyed a more spacious and well-appointed area, complete with a double bed, a substantial basin, mirrored closet doors, and a picturesque window view overlooking a fountain in the courtyard.
“My part of the room just felt much smaller and less extravagant. It never truly bothered me to ask why; I knew the answer lay in the fact that he was William, and I was Harry,” Harry reflects.
Harry also reflects on the enduring label each brother bore: with William, at two years Harry’s senior, always seen as the heir, while Harry would, for better or worse, come to be known as the Spare.
