Sam Smith has recently opened up about their growing fascination with tattoos.
The beloved non-binary artist, known for their soulful voice, now boasts at least 35 tattoos adorning their body. This tally includes two fresh designs situated on their belly and neck.
In a candid chat with Roman Kemp backstage at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball in London, the 30-year-old revealed:
“The new one on my belly spells out ‘romance’. I also have an anchor on my chest. It’s becoming a bit of an addiction, and I’m now up to 35-plus tattoos.”
Smith shared that they’ve now taken to decorating their torso, noting that munching on Cheetos helps ease them into a relaxed state for the inking process.
“We had loads of pop music playing; it was such a fun atmosphere,” Sam detailed. “And yes, I was snacking on Cheetos to get in the right frame of mind.”
This revelation follows a moment when the singer pleasantly surprised fans at the Jingle Bell Ball, stepping onto the stage adorned in a glimmering silver jumpsuit.
Back in 2019, Smith publicly acknowledged their journey in discovering their non-binary identity, having felt conflicted about their gender for much of their life.
Recently, they’ve also shared their journey towards accepting and embracing their body’s natural curves, gaining the confidence to pose shirtless.
“In the past, I would have starved myself for weeks before a photo shoot if it required as little as a T-shirt. I would obsess over each photo, often pulling it down afterward,” Sam recounted.
“But just the other day, I decided to reclaim my body – to defend it, rather than trying to alter these hips and curves, shaped and cherished by my parents.
“Some might see this as showing off, but if you understood the courage it demands and the body trauma from my childhood, you’d see it differently.”
After posting their first shirtless picture in years, Sam appears to be fully embracing their body—a transformation evident in their newfound confidence during photoshoots.
