Former President Donald Trump finds himself amidst controversy after a recent incident during a National Prayer Service. The conflict arose when Bishop Mariann Budden used the sermon to address political issues, a move Trump described as “nasty and not compelling.”
Trump has demanded an apology from the bishop, not only to himself but also to the public at large. He criticized her for intertwining politics with religion during the sacred service.

The former president took to his Truth Social platform to express his discontent with Bishop Budden. In a statement, he accused her of using a religious platform to deliver a politically charged message, shortly after she admitted doing so in an interview with CNN.
Calling Bishop Budden a “hard-line Trump hater,” Trump argued that her actions were “ungracious and nasty,” inappropriate for such a spiritual setting.

The sermon was reportedly used as an appeal to Trump for leniency towards the transgender community and undocumented migrants – a message that Trump vehemently criticized. He argued it was misleading, claiming she ignored the problems of illegal immigration he believes are affecting the country severely.

Beyond the sermon, Trump criticized the bishop’s tone, describing it as “rude and disrespectful,” contrasting it with what he saw as suitable behavior: “polite and smart.” This incident has sparked outraged responses from conservative circles, with some even demanding her expulsion from the United States.
